Bio
Since graduating from the Columbia Journalism School, Jim has worked as a journalist, author, communications and marketing strategist and speechwriter. He covered business, economics and finance for The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. This included years as a correspondent in Hong Kong with the Journal and Tokyo for the Times, where Jim also wrote extensively on culture and the arts, politics, and national security. Jim joined Bloomberg/BusinessWeek after the financial crisis, covering regulatory issues, and then the Journal again as a Senior Writer on financial reform. His work has been honored with awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, the Foreign Press Association, and the Pulitzers, with a bylined article selected as one of the Winning Works for a Times staff Pulitzer Prize. He is an eight-time winner of The New York Times’ Publisher’s Award.
Jim enjoyed a second career as the speechwriter for the Chancellor and head of communications and marketing at The City University of New York, where he wrote a new strategic plan and led a rebranding. City & State Magazine honored Jim as one of New York City’s 50 Over 50 Leaders.
